The only time people had respect for him was when he died. People like Kevin Smith for example will soon start to kiss ass to Prince when God forbid he dies too. I want to see tears of regret at the memorial.

kevin smith is a prince fan. he was at the rave in2 gig at paisley in 1999 as a paying fan. during his twitterthon in the last 24 hours he said if he had to pick only one artist to listen to for the rest of his life he would pick prince. he mentioned prince a few other times too. he's doing a Q&A in mpls on 17th september and said "i wonder if prince will come"

i was at paisley at the time kevin smith was there, and i'm a big kevin smith fan too, i have all his dvds, and i've been in touch with him a few times over the last few days. there is nothing he said in both of his dvds where he mentions prince that wasn't the truth. he even mentions first names, and i and many others know exactly who he was talking about

likewise in the second dvd when he mentions the release forms, they were so lax with those things that i was in the studio with prince in a private chat for 2 hours without signing one, but i've respected his wish for privacy by not disclosing the details of what was discussed, and believe me it was some particularly interesting, private and personal stuff

kevin was just being himself, you have to know him to understand his sense of humour. he's a very nice guy, and very down to earth

and a little factoid that few people know as i don't think he's talked about it, but mallrats was shot at the eden prairie mall just along the freeway from paisley park, and the directors commentry for the clerks laserdisc and then first edition dvd was also recorded in mpls during the shooting of mallrats. the first time i went to paisley i was in a hotel across from the mall, and when i went in, the first mall i'd been to in the states, i felt that somehow i strangely knew the place. it wasn't until i got back home i found out that it was where mallrats was shot. they just changed the names of the stores to funnier names. the mall has since been renovated and changed dramatically so it's pretty unrecognisable now

kevin smith is actually a very down to earth, nice and polite guy. he tends to call people out if they act otherwise, and that's what he did with prince

he merely pointed out that prince was acting like an ass and lived in a bubble, unaware of what everyone else was thinking

perhaps after seeing both of kevins discussions on the subject it made prince reflect a bit on himself

after the initial "evening with", the topic was raised again on the second "evening harder" where he talks about the fallout after prince's camp saw the dvd. the subject isn't raised at all on the third "evening" dvd, and he wouldn't/didn't mention it during his tweetathon no matter how many times i asked, but he mentioned prince twice, hoping he would come to his MPLS "evening with" on 17th september, and saying that if he could only listen to one artist for the rest of his life it would probably be prince, so he's obviously still a fan. he got the time on jay and silent bob strikes back, after all
