Prince's next release after Sign O' The Times was to have been The Black Album, but it was scrapped at the last minute (inevitable leaks meant that bootlegged copies flooded the market) in favor of Lovesexy. Lovesexy turned out to be Prince's most personal/spiritual album to date, expanding from songs like "The Cross" further. Many of the songs were musically complex, intricate and demanding for the average listener, only simplifying on the last three tracks, so the set presented quite a challenge to the casual listener. The album sleeve of a tastefully nude Prince was a challenge in itself to many retailers in the States for some strange reason, and many refused to openly stock it on their shelves - harming sales in the US but interestingly this was Prince's first No.1 album in the UK (with the exception of Purple Rain, Lovesexy became Prince’s best selling album yet in most European countries).
It peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Pop Album Chart and number five on the Black Album Chart; it was his first album not to reach the Top 10 since Controversy in 1981.
CD copies of the album were not banded, the idea being that the album should be listened to as a whole, as one musical journey from start to finish.
Relatively poor sales in the US prompted Prince to postpone touring the States in favour of Europe where the tour was a spectacular success.
What are your thoughts about this album (good or bad). What does it mean to you and where does it figure in your collection. Discuss the songs and vote in our poll for your favourite track.

"LoveSexy"come on it just had it all..it just took you to places that u didn't think existed...I was lucky enough to see him in Wembley Arena...also an after gig..to pick a favorite is hard...but I wont cop out, so I will have to say..(When 2 R In Love ) at the moment..;) ..but I reserve the right to change my mind as my mood changes...and that suerly is what music is about?..

One of Prince's best albums but, thanks to the 1 track CD, one I hear songs from least due to the chance of them coming up on my Ipod's shuffle being slim. I love all the tracks on this and the production is great. I've voted for Anna Stesia as my favourite but Alphabet Street, Eye No and Lovesexy run close.

What a great moment in Prince history...I am so glad to be old enough to have witnessed it and be a part of it.
The whole Lovesexy concept kind of came together and worked... the music....the album sleeve...the album's message...the band he had at the time...the concerts...the outfits....the staging... All except for the mad scramble for tickets at wembley...but that's another story.
Almost all the songs on the album were great and it was tough to choose... but if push come to shove I would have to go for Glam Slam for various reasons...
It's not a obvious choice for many... the song at first doesn't seem to make any sense.....(Glam Slam - a play on the phrase Wham Bam???)... different in sound to anything he had done previously at that point. I love it's production, instrumentation and over-the-top orchestration particularily towards the end... and the video to it captures some of the feel of the live show.
Great song/album and unforgettable tour....:)

For me, this represents Prince at his utmost best. It was at a time when he was totally untouchable, the album is pure genius, and as for the live show... WOW. It was my 1st Prince concert at Wembley Arena, and it did not dissapoint.
Id say this was his greatest album along with the masterpiece that is TRC

OK it was a good album, there wasn't anything like it at the time, but his best?? I don't think so.
Hasn't anyone heard Sign 'o' the Times, or Musicology, Contoversy, Dirty Mind etc etc etc.
I was there at the Wembley Gig in 1988, my first Prince concert, even wore the T-Shirt I bought at that gig to the O2 gig in August, some students couldn't believe what good condition it was in (never worn u see, kept as a hallowed object for nearly 20 years).
Back to what I was saying, yeah yeah it's good, but he has done so much better stuff, before and since.
Now don't be arguing about it :peace:

It's very difficult to say this or that is my favorite when it comes to chosing a Prince album or song as most are so strong...i guess it's all down to what it ment to U and the memories you have .
For me Lovesexy was pinnacle ,it was the first concert I saw back in 1988 at Wembley Arena.
Let's not beat about the bush ,it's not his strongest album!...but the memories of that time are priceless for myself.
PRINCE brings a different agenda to the table each and every time he releases something new.
You just don't know what to expect,.......Genius. :peace:

I had 2 go for Anna Stesia on this album. But as a whole the album is short on tracks, not enough raw guitar. I wish u heaven (crap). The album is full of samples and 2 overdubbed for me, but in it's favour I like the horns section on the first number. The video's blow the album away, as for the cd version it barely gets a look in with the rest of my collection, Goldfigga X.
