PRINCE once had to run away from an irate ROEBUCK 'POPS' STAPLES - because he made the mistake of calling the late soul great 'Junior'. Prince had invited Staples, who died in 2000, to appear with his daughter Mavis Staples on a TV (http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/prince%20ran%20away%20from%20angry%20pops%20staple s_1029389#) special he hosted in the early 1990s when he made his faux-pas. Mavis Staples recalls, "Pops is sitting there on his stool, tinkering with his guitar (http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/prince%20ran%20away%20from%20angry%20pops%20staple s_1029389#). "Prince walked up to him and said, 'Are you going to sing tonight, Junior?' And Pops said, 'What you call me, boy?' and starts getting up to get him. 'I'm gonna tear him up!' "Prince broke out running in his pumps."
