| Prince and The Revolution - Parade | |||
Producer:
Prince
Highest Pop Chart Position: |
Notes |
||
| Soundtrack to Prince's
2nd movie Under The Cherry Moon. The album consisted of a broad range of musical styles in
keeping with the romantic/parisenne theme of the film. Impressed with Clare
Fischer's work on The Family, full orchestration began to feature more in
Prince's compositions
as well as forays into jazz. This was to be his last album with The
Revolution. Standout Tracks: Kiss, Anotherloverholenyohead, Mountains, Sometimes It Snows In April, Do U Lie Experience Rating: Nice soundtrack, shame about the movie (7/10) |

Producer:
Jesse Johnson
|
Notes | ||
| Jesse's 2nd album continued to
develop his 'Jungle Love' sound, pounding jungle drums, funky basslines and stinging lead guitar
solos offered a groove formula that was right for him. Improvements were also apparent
in regards to his range of songs on this album from simple, catchy, hard funk (Crazay - feat.
Sly Stone) to sugar pop (Do Yourself A Favor) to serious social commentary (Black In
America). Standout Tracks: Crazay, She (I Can't Resist), Addiction, Do Yourself A Favor, Black In America Paisley Involvement: None Experience Rating: Jesse goes from strength to strength (8/10)

| 94 East - Minneapolis Genius, The Historic 1977 Recordings | |||
Producers:
Tony Silvester, Pepe Willie
|
Notes |
||
| A collection of demos (mostly
instrumentals) circa 1977 featuring a pre-Warners contract Prince on guitar,
bass, drums, synths and backing vocals whilst he was a session musician for Pepe Willie's
group 94 East. Unearthed, overdubbed and released by Pepe (against Prince's wishes)
in 1986 to cash in on his fame. The disco-fied tracks however gave an early glimpse of a
talent just waiting to explode... Re-released and repackaged on different
labels over the
following years. Standout Tracks: If You Feel Like Dancin', Dance To The Music Of The World, One Man Jam Paisley Involvement: Low/Medium Experience Rating: An early taste of things 2 come... (6/10) |

Producers:
Skip Drinkwater, Tommy Faragher
|
Notes | ||
| Vanity's second solo release for
Motown continues to play on her sexy vampish image. On the album sleeve she looks
like a million dollars. It was clear that Motown were sparing no expenses in hiring the
finest session musicians and producers this time round to work on the material given to her,
plus a vocal coach to work on
her voice. It kinda paid off on a few tracks - the brilliant "Under The Influence",
"Romantic Voyage" and "Skin On Skin" being the best of her post-Prince
solo material, but the rest of the album was pretty dire in terms of poor
songs and weak,
soul-less vocals.
Standout Tracks: Under The Influence,
Romantic Voyage, Skin On Skin
