Madhouse
are back...!!! Well sort of... First new Prince album of 2003 available
as an mp3 download to NPG Music Club members only came as a pleasant surprise. It's
a jazzy affair and could be seen as the 4th Madhouse release. |

Six months after the release of the
(Internet only) Xpectation comes another quality jazz/fusion
release from Prince. The current line-up of the NPG is best suited to this
music genre and clearly Prince is taking advantage, making the most of the
talents of John Blackwell, Rhonda Smith, Renato Neto plus the
welcome return of Eric Leeds - raising the bar on the Madhouse
concept ever further. NEWS takes you on a journey to all 4 corners,
exploring musically different atmospheres and influences of each
region. The 4 x 14mins tracks allow the musicians plenty of room to
fully interact, play off and improvise with each other - the results are
on the whole less structured but more experimental, improvisational,
daring and complex. The jazz world has yet to take Prince seriously
has a jazz musician - NEWS takes another step closer towards
gaining that respect. |

| St. Paul - Everything | |||
Producer(s):
St Paul, Oliver Leiber, Jason Peterson DeLaire, Donny Osmond,
Jon Shanks

Notes |
||
| St
Paul returns in 2003 with his 4th solo release after six years.
These days forgoing his funky/r&b roots for a more commercial, MOR,
and (dare I say) boy-bandish sound musically and in his
songwriting. The jury's still out on whether this direction is
a good or bad thing... There are still fans out there who long for another
"High Fashion", "Mutiny" or even
"Intimacy". The "blue-eyed soul" vocals are
still present, but the material on display is just ok, pleasant,
standard, ordinary, easy on the ears - what you'd usually hear on
your average easy-listening pop radio everyday. Pleasing the hardcore or searching for a new wider audience is probably part of the dilemma here. We know that St. Paul is an incredibly talented vocalist/musician and is far capable of something a bit more harder edged and different from the norm.... just needs a chance to let loose. Maybe next time... Standout Tracks: "Sugar", "Unwilling", "Next Time", "Everything". Paisley Involvement: None Experience Rating: Classy/catchy, formulaic, slow to mid-tempo pop tunes minus the funk... (6/10) |

After all these years, almost forgotten and
out of the blue, Prince's 1st lady touring band member Gayle Chapman hits
us with her first solo project on her own indie label. Now
re-located in Boise, Idaho Ms Chapman, together with a talented bunch of
session musicians, presents a collection of easy listening,

The
"First Lady" of the mpls. music scene Margaret Cox makes a long overdue return with her new solo album release since the 1988 Jesse
Johnson produced "Blueberry Gossip" LP [an early 1990's Prince produced
Paisley Park album remains sadly unreleased]. |
