The Montreux Jazz Festival is going to be a little bit more funky this year as a musical genius is planning on taking the stage not once, but twice.

The one and only Prince WILL be performing 2 shows at Montreux this year and he is bringing a musically talented band with him. Playing with Prince at the legendary festival will be Rhonda Smith, Renato Neto, and John Blackwell.

In his 31 years in music, Prince has won every award imaginable from a Grammy to an Oscar to one of the youngest inductees ever into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. He performed at the 2007 Super Bowl in the rain no less and still gave off the performance of a lifetime.

In 2007, Prince gave a legendary performance at The Montreux Jazz Festival where tickets sold out in record time. So when ticket information and tickets become available this time, make sure to reserve your spot if you plan to attend.-Dr.FB

More Info On Prince & Montreux

Drfunkenberry.com Exclusive Photo Of Prince

We just got word that Prince has rehearsed the 3 players: John Blackwell, Rhonda Smith and Renato Neto for 2 weeks now and taught them new and old material alike as well as a few covers. Sounds cool.
Prince is using a smaller crew these days to allow space for the audience to properly hear his favorite players right now.

We are being told that Prince will, of course be featured on guitar throughout the concert but mainly this year his goal is to showcase his sometimes overlooked vocal abilities.
Hence the stripped down vibe of this crew.
As shown on his most recent performance on the Tonight Show, Prince feels he is improving as a vocalist and has taken the time to re-work arrangements to showcase his gift.

Some tunes will just feature Renato on piano and Prince on vocals. He is Prince’s favorite pianist and as a fan of his work, it’s a treat for him just listening to Renato every night without any audible distraction.
Prince has also been listening alot to new jazz star Esperanza Spalding. He attended her concert in St. Paul, Minnesota recently and she and her impressive band came over to Prince’s Paisley Park Studio for a tour and jam session that lasted til sunrise. Now that’s hot! He loves to play with her and always teases he will join her band one day when he’s good enough. Ha! BTW, she is a must see if you ever y’ll get the chance.

In addition to Esperanza, Prince is a big fan of Ana Moura. Her command of an audience is very impressive. She has a strong voice that radiates sensuality. Accompanied by 3 musicians when Prince saw her, Ana was a template as well as Esperanza for Prince’s new approach to performance.

Awesome news. Let’s hope this concert makes it’s way to the United States soon!-Dr.FB

Re: Prince Will Be Performing 2 Shows At The Montreux Jazz Festival

An article (in French - rough translation in English below) about how the Montreux concerts deal was done:

How Prince come to Montreux

By Arnaud Robert
July 18, Minneapolis singer will two concerts at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Story behind the scenes of an event whose issues span the price of the stamp the brand of water in his lodge
Small full of technology, ten metres from the scene of the Auditorium Stravinsky Lodge. This is that the operator sends mails twelve hours per night during the festival. A folder it is very proud, Claude Nobs Gets 80 messages exchanged with the Prince entourage. Since April 6, since the Minneapolis singer expressed to annex the last night of the Montreux Jazz information flows, change, specify to set the single European delivery of Prince in 2009. "‘ It ' s your lucky day", is your lucky day Announces one of the items, at the time where the proposal from Los Angeles is finally confirmed. Story behind the scenes of a double concert that already appears as the summer event par excellence.

Prince already came in 2007 to Montreux, as a warm-up before its huge concerts 20 in this Arena in London where Michael Jackson had planned his return. The show was already the result of a long relationship between Prince and Nobs. "I it was known in 1979, when I worked for Warner." I have led him in a small European tour at the Palace in Paris. Many people méfiaient of this dwarf dressed as a clown. "But it was already phenomenal on stage."

Thirty years later, nothing has changed. Prince is always small overcome talonnettes, and it makes you chicken flesh when he takes his guitar. It was anticipated that Prince gives three concerts the same night, then a single, then finally two. Hazards a millimétrée organization where the requirements of an artist that controls take precedence over financial matters.

Even if the adventure is obviously expensive. By adding the stamp and fees for these two concerts, night costs 1.5 million francs exhibition in Montreux. A sum ticketing covers just. "It is not to earn money on this evening." "But to live one of the most exciting adventures of the Montreux Jazz", to enthusiasm Mathieu Jaton, the Secretary-General of the festival. It was already in 2007, in the days that preceded the Prince, alongside its agent. A browse through the exact route as the star would borrow to add a barrier, a security here. The tiny detail is subject to the goodwill of the American couriers.

This year, we know if Prince allongera at night, after his concerts for a free service at the Montreux Jazz Café. But in the elevator that lead it from the Auditorium Stravinsky, it has already replaced light cell by a fluorescent band to avoid an unwelcome princely gesture stops the lift between two floors.

Information flows trickle from Los Angeles offices counsel and agents. Never no artistic question no has crowded the discussion. "I have always said yes to all", says Claude Nobs. "Questioning an artist also gifted choices". Our contract is stamped poster of the Montreux Jazz its graphic designer we did achieve and we will cover the walls of Montreux.» We know that Prince will come in Montreux in small training a drummer (John Blackwell), a bassist (Rhonda Smith), a keyboard (Morris Hayes) and a pianist (Renato Neto). Fifteen posts aircraft have been reserved from L.A. Swiss flights. The singer and his had flown by plane private two years ago. They should arrive on 17 July and repeat in the day or night at the Petit, which has an underground access to Montreux Palace.

Queries related to the security of Prince does not exceed those of other rockstar international dimension. It moves with his bodyguards. But his lodge will neither be repeinte or open Windows on walls. Minneapolis kid asks only a popcorn machine, some biscuits and American brand water that can be found that the American Market in Geneva. On the list of recommendations, the temperature of the lodge is still specified at the degree. And Internet access must be non-wireless and cable.

Very reasonable requirements. The specifications verges on the anecdotal, but each plays big in this case where the mood of the artist can significantly affect his performance. In 2007, after playing close to 30 minutes to two not dawn at the Montreux Jazz Café, a euphorique Prince was returned in the elevator. On a gesture to his manager Trevor Horn, without a Word, it had required return onstage to play three songs still. What turn a great show in historic concert.
For this double concert, 8 000 tickets (sold between 195 and 480 francs) have passed in seven minutes, the great difficulty lies in the flow of people. Double file of the public, room emptied and cleaned up between the two performances, access for people with badge that should not take the place of the paying public management. Mathieu Jaton has over its White Nights since the first contacts with the Prince entourage. But goodwill, on the side, is manifest. "This is a God of the communication," exclaimed Jaton.

The poster of personal taste, has been sent by the Prince, graphic designer as well as illustrations of t-shirts. A few hours ago Prince even downloaded an exclusive song for the promotion of his montreusien concert, "In a Large Room With Light no" (the site of the time). After you have prohibited in 2007, it also accepts that these lémaniques concerts are filmed for possible publication.

Prince of marketing, singer invented a relationship to her fans the largest stars would be inspired. The organizers of the Montreux Jazz Festival at each stage of negotiation, had the surprise to see immediately published on sites in honour of Prince (including www.drfunkenberry.com), the latest information disseminated as rumours. "We understood enough quickly that leaks were organized.", is having time Mathieu Jaton. A further confirmation to the merits of the importance these concerts for the Prince himself.

Prince. July 18 to 19: 00 and 22: 00. Concerts complete but not inaccessible. It can still find tickets on eBay and Ricardo so that the same day at the Montreux Convention Centre. www.montreuxjazz.com
